Dangers of Homosexuality, except…

You will often hear conservatives rail against homosexuality, however, when pressed to explain why homosexuality is inherently wrong without invoking religion, you will generally hear a few responses.

STD rates are signifigantly higher among homosexuals.

In short, this is true, but it is far from a justification of stigmatizing homosexuals, as there are reasons this is true, and ways it can be preventable. One way is to remove the notion that anal sex doesn’t require condoms, when in fact you actually have a higher chance of getting an std through anal sex, condoms, and making sure to use them are a great way to stop this from being the case, along with making sure you and your partner get tested before having intercourse, in short, STD rates among homosexuals are an ineffectual argument.

2) Higher Depression rates among homosexuals

An odd argument, as the generally accepted solution to a stigmatized group suffering from higher rates of depression is generally not to stigmatize them more. But regardless, it is worth rebutting. Some may say something along the lines of “Black people are stigmatized but they don’t suffer from higher rates of suicide” however, even if this were true, which it isn’t as black do suffer 20% more than the general population from severe mental illness, generally this misconception comes from the fact that despite this, whites are more prone to suicide than minorities. But regardless this argument falls flat because of the factor of family acceptance, black people will never be rejected from their family for being black, as that’d never come as a surprise to the parents, however, as a pew research survey shows, 39 percent of LGBT Americans have been rejected by a friend or family member because of their homosexuality, while it is important to factor in the fact that friends are lumped together with family in this survey, the point still stands as a study by the Williams Institute found that 40% of homeless youth are LGBT despite the LGBT population being only about 3.8% of the total American population. Anti-gay advocates may then point to a study done in Sweden, a country highly accepting of gays, showing that gays had higher rates of depression and use it to show that suicide ideation rates among gay men are not the result of stigma. However, while this study does show that gay men have about three times the suicide ideation rate of straight men, it says that gay women have a “tentatively elevated risk.” There are a few explanations for this, one is that, while the study adjusts for HIV status, it does not say that it adjusted for other stds. In addition, women are in general more accepting, of homosexuality than men, in addition to a pew survey demonstrating that lesbians are more likely than gay men to be in a commited relationship. Also, female homosexuality is slightly more accepted. It is also interesting in that women in the general population are about twice as depressed as men. In addition to this, while gay acceptance of homosexuality is far more common in Sweden, ‘35% percent of respondents from Sweden felt discriminated against or harassed in the last 12 months on the grounds of sexual orientation” It is hard to find conclusive numbers to compare against other, less accepting countries. And while it is worth looking into, the Sweden survey isn’t something that should be taken as a reason to discriminate against gay people.

North Korea calls latest UN sanctions an act of war

According to North Korea’s foreign ministry, the latest round of UN sanctions are “an act of war,” and threatened to punish those who supported the measure. The UN Security Council imposed new sanctions on North Korea on Friday due to its recent ICBM test, seeking to limit its access to refined petroleum products and crude oil along with its earnings from workers abroad.

The new resolution seeks to ban nearly 90% of refined petroleum exports by capping them at 500,000 barrels a year and demands the “repatriation of North Koreans working abroad within 24 months”. The US-drafted resolution also caps crude oil supplies to North Korea at 4 million barrels a year and commits the Council to further reductions if the North conducts another ICBM/nuclear test.

In a statement, North Korea’s foreign ministry said the US is “terrified” by its nuclear force and was getting “more and more frenzied in the moves to impose the harshest-ever sanctions and pressure on our country”.

United States to cut $285 billion on UN spending in 2018 (Video)

128 United Nation states vote against the United States in its recent decision to move its Embassy to Jerusalem and making it Israels capital. Since the US decision there have been clashes in the streets in around the Gaza Strip & across Jerusalem.

US United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley attacked the UN threatening the United States financial support. The United States was joined by 9 other small 3rd world countries to support its decision. Either they don’t care or don’t want the United States to come drop Democracy bombs in their countries.

The US envoy (Nikki Haley) to the UN has announced they’re implementing cuts on the “bloated” UN budget by $285 million next year, which is a “big step in right direction.”

Haley said the cuts will end benefits that the international community has gained from “American generosity,” but didn’t give any specifics. According to Haley, “the inefficiency and overspending of the United Nations are well known.”

The US can no longer “let the generosity of the American people be taken advantage of or remain unchecked. This historic reduction in spending – in addition to many other moves toward a more efficient and accountable UN – is a big step in the right direction,” Haley asserted.

The US has contributed the largest share to UN out of all members, which (2017) amounted to 22% of the UN’s $5.4 billion 2-year budget.

US State Department confirms that the US will supply Ukraine with weapons

The US State Department has confirmed that the US will be supplying lethal arms to Ukraine in the near future.

“The United States has decided to provide Ukraine enhanced defensive capabilities as part of our effort to help Ukraine build its long-term defense capacity, to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and to deter further aggression,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said, adding that military assistance to the Ukrainian army is “entirely defensive in nature.”

Ukraine will apparently acquire at least $47 million in weapons, including FGM-148 Javelin launchers and Model M107A1 sniper rifles. The US has authorized a total of $350 million in military aid to Ukraine under the National Defense Authorization Act; which President Trump signed into law.

Vladimir Putin announces that Russia won’t be competing in an arms race with the west

According to Russian President Putin, Russia won’t be engaging in an arms race with the west, and the military spending will be decreased as Russia “does not seek a role as the world gendarme.” Instead, they’ll stick to “smart decisions” in order to strengthen their defensive capabilities.

“Intelligence, brains, discipline and organization must be the cornerstones of the (Russian) military doctrine,” Putin said. He added that the last thing his country needs is an arms race which would “drain the economy,” which Moscow doesn’t want “in any scenario.”

German authorities will now have arriving refugees “firmly reminded” of “Germany’s responsibility to the Jewish state” due to the Holocaust

After multiple anti-Israeli protests, German authorities will now have arriving refugees “firmly reminded” of “Germany’s responsibility to the Jewish state” due to the Holocaust. Anti-Israel/US rallies, and the sight of both flags being burned on the streets of Berlim, have resulted in German politician’s taking action; prompting them to ban them from rallies to prevent flag burning. “All people who live in Germany must understand its historical responsibility to Israel,” German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said.

“This responsibility does not end for the people who were born after the Holocaust and has no exceptions for the immigrants,” he said, adding that it’s “not a subject to discussion for anyone living in Germany or willing to live there.” Justice Minister Heiko Maas said that the issue of the Holocaust “should be a central part of the German integration courses for refugees and migrants. I believe it is absolutely necessary to make Holocaust and its significance for our society a central topic in our integration courses,” Maas said.

“Lessons learnt from the Holocaust must become the key message of those courses,” he added. The minister pointed out that German authorities “would not tolerate any form of anti-Semitism, including that brought to Germany by refugees and migrants from the Middle East.

Racism has no place in Germany, so everyone who wants to stay in Germany for the long term needs to be clear that we fight the Neo-Nazis’ anti-Semitism and we won’t tolerate any imported anti-Semitism from immigrants either,” Maas said.

“Those who call for ‘death to Jews’ should not be allowed to take to the streets but should be taken to court instead,” he added.

The new GOP tax bill continues to be Socialism for the rich & crony capitalism for the poor

Time after time we hear that giving the top 1% tax cuts will create jobs, yet we never see the result. These same corporations are the same ones paying NOTHING in FEDERAL INCOME TAXES, therefore leaving us the working class the tab to pay.

Why are workers defending the corporations when they’re the ones lobbying for these laws? Back under Eisenhower Income taxes on the top 1% was 90%, only affecting those making $200,000 a year & couples making $400,000 a year thus putting more money into our economy instead of sitting on it.

Today that’s roughly an individual making $1.7 million & a couple making $3.4 million. Todays highest tax rate is a measly 39.6%, and the new GOP tax scam plans to cut the corporate tax rate to 21% which is absolutely absurd.

For example Verizon not only did this telecommunications giant avoid pain federal income taxes on $42.5 billion in United States profits from 2008 through 2013, but it also received a text rebate of $732 million.

How about another example, General Electric. When I comes to dodging Texas, GE brings good things to the table. From 2008 through 2013, while GE made nearly $34 billion in profits, it received tax refunds of nearly $3 billion.

Meanwhile, during the financial crisis of 2008, GE received a $16 billion bail out from the federal reserve while it’s chief executive officer at the time was serving as a director of the New York federal reserve bank.

And then finally how about IBM, no big blue has a long record of outsourcing good paying jobs, slashing pensions, and cutting retiree health benefits. In 2015, IBM made nearly $6 billion in profits in the United States.

So not only did IBM pay nothing in federal income taxes that year, it also received a $321 million tax refund from the IRS, while also receiving $1.35 billion in government contracts. And from 2008 to 2015, IBM avoided $17.8 billion in United States taxes by operating subsidies in 16 offshore tax savings.

So I really can’t find a good reason to give the same corporations a bigger tax break when they already are avoiding paying taxes as it is.

Israeli Air Force carries out airstrikes in Gaza

The Israeli Air Force carried out airstrikes in Gaza last night, killing two Palestinian “gunmen” after rockets were fired from the area. At least three rockets were reportedly launched toward Israeli towns from the Gaza Strip late last night.

“IAF aircraft targeted four facilities belonging to the Hamas terror organization in the Gaza Strip: two weapons manufacturing sites, a weapons warehouse, a military compound,” the Israeli military said in a statement.

Palestinian protests, so far today, aren’t as intense as Friday. On Friday, thousands of Palestinians took to the streets in protest and two were killed in clashes with IDF troops on the Gaza border. Dozens were wounded there and in the West Bank.

Islamic State push Kurdish forces back, taking two villages

The Islamic State has taken the villages of Taweeli’ah and al-Maliha. The villages were taken when the Kurdish forces were forced to withdraw from Kirkuk, which allowed for them to take advantage of a security vacuum.

Not much is know about what is to happen next in these two villages. Also in the news, Kurdish forces have begun to withdraw from Makhmur district southeast of Mosul.

The Kurds have not made a statement on the reason for the withdrawal. According to a Peshmerga official, forces and heavy equipment are being moved to Erbil.

Dozens of terrorists hiding among civilians in Raqqa

As dozens of terrorists are found hiding among civilians fleeing war-torn Raqqa, the US-led coalition said that “any and all negotiations” are off the table. Other than the terrorists hiding behind women and children, an estimated 500 are prepared to fight until death.

Coalition spokesman Col. Ryan Dillon said officials in the Raqqa Civil Council, whos responsibility is to govern the city after Daesh has been driven out, “are working to negotiate the safe passage of thousands of civilians being held hostage.”

But the coalition “will not support any negotiated withdrawal of fighters,” he said. The Syrian Democratic Forces claim that the city should be under their control within days.

Bernie Sanders heads to the Suburbs

Senator Bernie Sanders payed a visit to the western suburbs of Chicago earlier this week, on Tuesday, August 30th. The once presidential candidate is currently touring the country to promote various causes, but made stops in Naperville and Aurora to promote his latest book, Bernie Sanders Guide to Political Revolution.

Sanders first visited the sophomores of Naperville School District 203 to discuss the importance of caring for politics. In this event that was closed to the public, Sanders captivated the minds of nearly 800 Government and AP Government students. The sophomores were given the opportunity to both express their opinions on issues and to ask the Senator any questions that may have been floating around in their heads.

Sanders then spent the evening at the Paramount Theater in Aurora at an event hosted by Anderson’s Bookshop, the second time Sanders has teamed up with the bookstore in the past nine months. Supporters from around the Chicagoland area filled the theater of 1885 seats to near capacity, with only a few open seats scattered amongst the crowd.

The Senator began the evening by addressing Hurricane Harvey and the efforts underway in Texas. “What you’re seeing people do,” Bernie said, “is what we do best when we are proud Americans: people coming together to address the crisis.” Sanders then continued on to address the issues he touches on in his book, including immigration, the minimum wage, and racism and bigotry.

Bernie Sanders Guide to Political Revolution is a book geared towards high school and college students who have passion for issues but do not necessarily know of outlets to further their causes. The book shows what issues are currently pertinent, and how to address said issues to create tangible change. As Bernie put it in the introduction to the book: “What this book is about is converting that idealism and generosity of spirit into political activity.” Bernie Sanders Guide to Political Revolution is currently available in book retailers nationwide.

United States demands Russia close down their consulate buildings in 3 states

The US has demanded that Russia close their consulate in San Francisco and buildings in Washington and NY. This is in retaliation for (Russia) cutting American diplomatic presence in the country.

“We believe this action (diplomatic staff cut) was unwarranted and detrimental to the overall relationship between our countries,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said this morning. “In the spirit of parity invoked by the Russians, the United States has required the Russian government to close its San Francisco consulate and two annexes in Washington, D.C. and New York by Sept. 2.”

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson informed Russian FM Sergei Lavrov in a phone call today. Lavrov “expressed regret” about the decision during the phone call with Tillerson. “Moscow will closely study the new measures announced by the Americans, after which our reaction will be conveyed,” the Russian FM said.

Former Bernie Staffer To Run For Mayor

Bolingbrook, Illinois – Jackie Traynere, a former staffer for Senator Bernie Sanders, will be running against long-time mayor Roger Claar. Traynere, a small business owner, is currently a board member for Will County as well as The Illinois Women’s Institute For Leadership.

In September 2016, Claar hosted a fundraiser for Donald Trump at the Bolingbrook Golf Club. This caused some protests and subsequently, a slate of candidates now planning to oust the long-time mayor – led by Traynere.

“Bolingbrook United aims to take on the Bolingbrook political establishment in the municipal elections in April and bring a fresh perspective to local government,” stated a news release announcing slate of candidates.

Roger Claar has been the unchallenged mayor of Bolingbrook since 1986. During his tenure, Bolingbrook has turned into a retail and commercial hub. This has enticed large retailers, such as IKEA, to move in.

Despite claims of pay-to-play politics, the mayor credits himself for the steady growth. He also mentioned his firm stance of remaining neutral to businesses with long-time contracts with the city.

“I’m probably tougher on the people that support me.  I tell them they can never do anything that puts me in a position where it looks like pay to play.” – said Claar

In 1991, Claar was appointed to the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority board by then-Gov. Jim Edgar, but then resigned in 2000 following a controversy over him accepting campaign contributions from contractors who got tollway business contracts. Although he resigned, he was never officially charged of any wrongdoing.
Not only has his name appeared in local investigations, but Claar has also appeared in several federal and state investigations. In 2008, a businessman alleged in a federal court filing that he was pressured to donate thousands of dollars to Claar’s campaign and certain charities in order to keep his village contracts, back in 2001.
As a full-time mayor Claar pays himself a hefty salary of $140,102, not including a $6,000 car allowance. He emphasizes that’s less than Bolingbrook paid the village administrator whose job he eliminated.

He also collects two public pensions: $55,757 from his previous career as a school administrator, and $4,532 from his stint on the Illinois Tollway Authority.
Claar said people support him financially because they’re pleased with his leadership – something his more generous donors agree on.

The Chicago Tribune reported, in 2009, that K-Five Construction Corp. has donated $47,500 to Claar’s campaign in the last decade, and VP Jennifer Krug stated there was no pressure to give any.

“He’s done a terrific job being mayor of Bolingbrook.” she said.

In the same 2009 report, The Chicago Tribune also noted that K-Five has received more than $8 million in village business in the last 10 years.
In another recent case in 2014, he allegedly lowered the rent for a local arena complex, citing the high cost of hockey. The rent was supposed to triple as per a past deal but was kept at 1% of the rinks’ gross earnings. Edward Schroeder, owner of the rink, had previously contributed $164,500 since 1999 according to reports.

Schroeder also owns a construction firm, Great Midwest Contracting. It has been paid about $20 million through various village contracts since 2000, according to village records.

Donations and the total value of contracts received (Since 1999)

COMPANY AND RELATED BUSINESSES DONATED RECEIVED:
Crown Recycling ($55,000 / $32.5 million), Naperville Excavating ($15,000 / $13.1 million), James D. Fiala Paving Co. ($23,000 / $10.6 million), Weible & Cahill ($17,000 / $9.6 million), Walsh Landscape Construction ($36,000 / $8.4 million) K-Five Construction ($47,500 / $8 million)

“I don’t hear the criticism, and believe me I’m on the street, as evidenced by the money I spend, I could go home and eat a bologna sandwich every night. But I go out to socialize and eat, I talk to people.” – Roger Claar

There’s even a facebook page dedicated to voting out the long-time mayor – which can be viewed HERE

Fascism, A Center-out Phenomenon

1486328574865Written By: Anthony Bennet

(Edit: There’s something extremely fundamental that I didn’t weave in to this essay. Fascism is also a response to decadence)

I don’t view fascism as a coherent political ideology. To me, it is more like a trend within populations. If nations were people, I’d call fascism an emotion. (Someone please help me out here getting the wording right). So, I ask that you check your prior thoughts and beliefs at the door. Just listen to me ‘til the end, then collect what you checked and make your own judgement.

There is no algorithm for defeating fascism. It replicates like a virus, faster than the system it consumes by definition. Fascism preys on the weakness of the system it invades, on the contradictions of the society it infests.

People themselves acting on their own convictions fight fascism. Then, they win or they lose. Fascism is neither top-down or bottom up. It adopts the form it needs to survive, but it necessarily has both and as such can defeat both top-down and bottom threats. Megalomaniac individuals inspire devotion from a mass of people clamouring for a leader, a human God if you will. The people want a living God to tell them what they need to do, an Übermensch that can connect with the people he’s leading, and a core of disciples to organize the people and project the will of the Über.

The Über comes from the people–how else can he understand them so well? The connection is direct, intimate, and most of all, passionate. He is the tribal leader. The Fürher . The Duce. [1] Hitler and Mussolini were both middle class as fuck. Once power is seized, there is to only be one Über. Others are threats and will be killed, sent far far away, or otherwise disposed of. But until then, subÜbers like Ernst Röhm can make for very effective disciples!

The people must generate their own disciples too as the mass grows. These disciples follow the same trend as the Über. They must be of the same mold for they are walking and talking symbols of their Über. They are people trying to live up to the ideals their Über has laid out for them and inspirations to the masses they herd.

These are the three main cogs I have recognized. Without an enthusiastic populace, an Über and his henchmen are nothing more than a pimple. Without an Über to unify them, subgroups of the people lead by disciples will spend their time fighting each other instead of achieving power. Without an effective disciple, the Über won’t be able to keep his mass together, or grow it beyond a certain level.

Fascism is a center-out process! It’s mother class is the middle class. The elites try to coopt it. The poor want a part of it. The middle drive it.

The middle class origins of fascism are what I find so scary about it. It takes self-awareness and self-acceptance together to recognize it (but more on that later for fascism is also an opportunity in the form of an enemy to defeat).

It’s an often quoted meme that the Nazis achieved power legitimately. This meme doesn’t lend itself to true or false. The Nazis DID exploit legitimate means, use legitimate fronts, and did win votes. They fooled the people in the middle, on the fence into thinking they were democrats, which they were when it suited their interests. They talked like democrats when it suited their interests! But they also rigged votes, beat up the opposition, and then killed them once the legitimate means of power were dominated by people who no longer respected the offices they controlled. They abused the parliamentary process to weaken the Czechoslovak state from the inside and create a fake humanitarian crisis that isolated Czechoslovakia from the UK and France when it became clear that the Czechs would stand up to the Nazis.

To be clear, I am indeed portraying fascism like a ghost or an invisible boogey man that haunts industrialized nations. Until it is too late, until the cancer has metastisized, fascism usually IS very hard to see, or hides in plain sight as something appealing. I see you Milo and the alt-right. No one in 1933 forsaw the Reich. No one in ‘36 forsaw the Reich. Hell, there was still plenty of faith in “Herr Hitler” even as Panzers rolled into Poland.

I suppose I am implicitly laying out a strategy for defeating fascism. In plain English it is this: learn the game it is playing and play it better. That game is war. Fascist humans derive personal meaning from war and conflict. On personal meaning I write from personal experience as a former fascist-sympathizer; I write from talking to fascists, befriending fascists, and playing war games with them; most importantly and holding pretty much all the weight here, I am write from reading what fascists of history themselves had to say:

“I sank to my knees and thanked heaven…….that it had given me the good fortune to live at such a time.” –Hitler reflecting on his service in WW1

“There followed terrible days and even worse nights – I knew that all was lost…in these nights hatred grew in me, hatred for those responsible for this deed.” –Hitler on his days immediately following Germany’s defeat in WW1.

“I am still today a soldier and only a soldier.” Ernst Röhm (long after being not-a-soldier)

Let’s borrow from Sun Tzu to learn how to fight this culture war, and win before it’s a shooting war. From the Art of War:

************************************************************

Policies

The best policy is to attack while the enemy is still planning. The next best is to disrupt alliances. The next best is to attack the opposing army. The worst is to attack the enemy’s cities.

Tactics

If you outnumber the enemy ten to one, surround them.
If you outnumber them five to one, attack them.
If you outnumber them two to one, divide them.
If you are equal, then find an advantageous battle.
If you are fewer, defend against them.
If you are much weaker, evade them.
Small forces are not powerful. However, large forces cannot catch them.

Speed

The value of time, that is of  being a little ahead of your opponent, often provides greater advantage than superior numbers or greater resources.
The essential factor of military success is speed, that is taking advantage of others’ unpreparedness or lack of foresight, their failure to catch up, going by routes they do not expect, attacking where they are not on guard. This you cannot accomplish with hesitation.
********************************************************
Fascists will not respect your ideals once in power. Care must be taken in, say, applying freedom of speech to fascists. Categorically ruling that fascists have no protections creates a dangerous precedent for political repression and ultimately becoming the very thing you’re swearing to protect against. It’s also a nice tool for fascists to use if they win the political warfare game. Yet extending respect and trust to people swearing not to respect can also be a quick way to fucking lose.

Realistically, you have to become the enemy you’re swearing to defeat, at least a little. You have to mirror their tactics at least a little or your integrity will be leveraged against you. Fascism preys on weaknesses and contradictions wherever it can find or create them. In fantasy, Paladins carry swords, wear armour, and take orders like soldiers like the orcs they fight. But they are not mindless zombies either like the orcs they fight. They are beings who believe in their moral code and swear to protect it. They think for themselves when necessary. They are people afterall, even clad in armor.  If the king is evil then the Paladins may turn cloak and kill the man they swear to protect.

Unfortunately, we don’t have the Arcane prowess of Dungeons and Dragons Paladins. We need something else. I’m tempted to go into a spiel about thinking for yourself, taking orders from yourself, being an Übermensch/Überfrau. And that’s part but missing something.

We need to connect to our own humanity, all of it. All your inner lightness and inner darkness. All our love and hate. Our convictions. We must connect with the things that our ideals are based on. This is the one thing that preys back on the weakness of fascism because the moral contradictions they prey on fall away when we stop relying on the letter of our ideals but the spirit of our ideals.

Loving your enemy is for after you defeat him. Until then be like Luke. Channel your hate. Love and hate together are what defeat hate. But don’t forget the whole love your enemy thing once you win less a bigger enemy crush you or you become your enemy.
Luke won by first defeating Vader with the love/hate combination, second by flipping him back to who he really was–Anakin–and third by teaming with Anakin Skywalker against Palpy.

When we accept that we may be labelled a hypocrite, an imposter, even a fascist, or whatever the fascist is trying to impose, their power loses its edge. When Nazis get punched in the street, opinion bloggers may condemn the act but their words ring hollow and forced. The words of people defending the attack might be able to be leveraged against them yet the feeling of sympathy in our guts surprisingly remains squarely with the puncher. The Nazis were defeated not by political rhetoric, integrity, and “trust that things will work out” but by millions of armed men of the USSR and millions of armed machines produced by the Allied Powers. And the associated blood.

I end this essay with a question and a muse on its answer. What do we call love and hate channelled together in harmony? To me, it matches with the feeling associated with ‘conviction’.

Conviction.
